Diagnosis & Treatments

How is Sarcoma diagnosed?

Diagnosis of Sarcoma

Physical Examination

The doctor checks the size, shape, and location of the lump.

Imaging Tests

X-rays, ultrasound, CT scans, or MRI help to locate and assess the tumor.

  • Bone scans helps detect bone sarcomas.

  • PET scans can identify spread of cancer.

Biopsy

A tissue sample is taken and examined under a microscope to confirm the diagnosis.

Stages of Sarcoma

Staging is based on the size of the tumor, whether it has spread to nearby tissues or lymph nodes, and if there are distant metastases (such as to the lungs).

Higher stages indicate more advanced disease, which may require more complex treatment.

Diagnosis & Treatments

How is Sarcoma treated?

Treatments for Sarcoma

  • Surgery: Removal of the tumor is the main treatment when possible.
  • Radiation Therapy: Used before or after Surgery, or when Surgery is not feasible.
  • Chemotherapy: Used when systemic treatment is necessary. Plan depends on the type and characteristics of the tumor.
  • Targeted Therapy/Immunotherapy: Used when systemic treatment is necessary. Plan depends on the type and characteristics of the tumor.

The best treatment Plan depends on the location, type, and stage of the sarcoma, as well as the patient’s overall health. Early detection and specialized treatment help improve outcomes.
