Introduction

Human biospecimen are the most fundamental and necessary material required in life science research and pharmaceutical development. The Samsung Medical Center Bio Bank was launched in 2008 to support translational research and satisfy the requirements of recent clinical research. In order to realize the vision of personalized medicine, which will allow a group of patients with specific characteristics to receive treatment in a timely manner, it is necessary to ensure quality human biospecimen and provide verified samples to domestic as well as overseas researchers. Bio Bank has therefore acquired advanced technology for collecting and storing human biospecimen. It also fosters the careers of bio bank specialists through educations related to ethic and legal issues and researcher support services. These efforts will ultimately play a pivotal role in reinforcing SMC’s research capability.
