본 연구는 유방암으로 진단 받은 환자의 수술 후 제거되는 유방암 조직과 액와부 림프절 조직의 일부를 이용하여 암세포와 면역세포를 실험실에서 분리 배양 후 면역 결핍된 NOD/SCID mice에게 배양된 암세포를 주입한 humanized breast cancer animal model을 확립하고, 각각의 humanized breast cancer mice에 대해 배양된 면역세포를 주입 후 animal model에 생착된 암 조직의 면역세포에 대한 반응도를 알아보고자 한 실험이다. 


Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Breast cancer is also characterized by a distinct pattern of metastasis involving regional lymph nodes, bone marrow, lung and liver. In the cancer chemotherapy, there are two major problems;one is the innate or acquired resistance of cancer cells to anticancer drugs and the other is the toxic effects of chemotherapeutic drugs. Therefore, establishment of new therapeutic strategies is urgently needed to improve the prognosis of breast cancer. To develop novel therapies and study pathophysiology that remain obscure require a good animal model of this disease.
Immunodeficient mouse models of human malignancy have contributed significantly to understanding the pathogenesis of diseases as well as therapeutic purpose. So, we observed that primary breast tumor biopsy grow in irradiated NOD/SCID mice. We also provided evidende that activated human immune cells inhibited the tumor growth in NOD/SCID mice.
