Lymphatic Malformation

This type of malformations happens in the stage of lymphatic vessel formation. This is more difficult to treat than the other types, because the lesion is generally very widespread and it may lead to lymphedema, causing severe swelling all over the extremities.

Symptoms

In many cases, the lesion has small wart-like bumps and the bumps and the affected skin may ooze clear or a bit bloody fluid, which results in difficulties in the patients’ daily life and thus requires treatment.

Treatment

It is hardly curable. Sclerotherapy may be applied as a symptomatic therapy to address the most irritating symptoms.
Although quite rare, macrocystic malformations which form only local lesions can be effectively treated with sclerotherapy.
In case of diffuse lymphatic malformations, sclerotherapy has symptomatic effects such as less oozing or less swelling.
